Come and see us! Shenley Road, Shenley Church End, MK5 6AB

About our Nursery

Our lovely nursery building, in the heart of the old Shenley Church End village was formerly the primary school, and retains the character of the original Victorian architecture. The rooms have been sympathetically refurbished to provide light and spacious play areas. In this supportive environment, your child will be able to learn and develop through play and creativity.

We offer full and part-time care for up to 48 children from the age of four months to four years, and are open from 7.30am to 6.15pm, Monday to Friday, all year round.

All Acorn nurseries are closed for all bank holidays, between Christmas and new year, plus our four training days each year. This means that monthly fees for 2024 are calculated over 49 weeks.  You will not be charged for these days, however fees are payable for additional closure days which are out of our control, eg: additional bank holidays over the standard eight.

The nursery has extensive gardens and outside play areas, including our timber-framed outdoor classroom. Outdoor play is a key aspect of Acorn’s ethos and the children benefit from spending time outdoors every day, whatever the weather. We also take full advantage of our local setting, which has retained its village feel and has several attractive walks which the children enjoy.

We have a wide of excellent resources and we are constantly bringing in new ideas to help our children develop to the best of their abilities and beyond. The nursery staff continuously provide well planned creative, imaginative and adventurous activities. Our Oaks children enjoy weekly Forest School sessions to Shenley Wood and we offer a wide variety of external activities.

Our menus have been carefully planned to be both seasonal and nutritionally balanced and tasty ensuring we have clean plates every time! All food is cooked from our hub kitchen based onsite, providing nutritionally balanced meals which are both healthy and appetizing. We only use fresh, local, ethically sourced produce to create our delicious meals. We can accommodate most dietary requirements and have won several awards for our food.

A home visit from Helen, the nursery manager and your child’s keyperson is offered to all new families as we believe children benefit from meeting their keyperson in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

A sneak peak inside our nursery!...

       Meet Helen, our Nursery Manager

I have worked at Shenley for 17 years. I started in 2005 as an unqualified lunchtime assistant and gained qualifications from level 2 right through to my BA in early years. I also took on additional training such as SEN, Forest school leader and mini bus driver. After 13 years of looking after children I decided the time was right to start my own family and in 2020 had my daughter who now also attends Acorn.

I have a passion for learning outdoors and enjoy not only watching children learn and develop but also helping staff develop too!

Favourite quote “the best classroom and the richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky”

Helen is also Shenley's Designated Safeguarding Lead, so if you ever have any concerns or would like to chat about anything safeguarding related, please visit or call the nursery on 01908 507782 and ask to speak to Helen directly - alternatively, the setting can provide a direct email address for her.
