Come and see us! St Giles Mews, Vicarage Road, Stony Stratford, MK11 1BN

About our Nursery

Situated on the site of Elizabeth House, in Vicarage Road, Stony Stratford. Our nursery provides high quality, affordable childcare and early years education for the local community, in a building which has been completely refurbished and extended, with two spacious play areas indoors, with direct access to three outdoor play areas.

We offer full and part-time care for up to 40 children from the age of four months to four years, and are open from 7.30am to 6.15pm, Monday to Friday, all year round.

All Acorn nurseries are closed for all bank holidays, between Christmas and new year, plus our four training days each year. This means that monthly fees for 2024 are calculated over 49 weeks.  You will not be charged for these days, however fees are payable for additional closure days which are out of our control, eg: additional bank holidays over the standard eight.

Acorn places a strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, and the children will have the opportunity to be outdoors at some point every day, whatever the weather. Included in our fees are regular Forest School sessions; these exciting educational experiences are suitable for pre-schoolers and are delivered by fully trained forest school leaders and offer an innovative approach to outdoor play.

All the nursery meals are freshly prepared and delivered each day by Acorn Catering, which operates from our hub kitchen at our Shenley Church End nursery. We use local ethically sourced produce to create our delicious meals and all our menus have been designed to be nutritionally balanced ensuring we offer a variety of foods.

A home visit from Kate the manager and your child’s keyperson is offered to all new families as we believe children benefit from meeting their keyperson in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions. Children are encouraged to form close bonds using our key person system to ensure learning and development are encouraged on an individual basis.

Regular visits to Elizabeth House Retirement Village:

The nursery has a great relationship with our neighbours at Elizabeth House and the residents in the retirement apartments. Twice a month The Squirrels visit Elizabeth House for an afternoon of fun, games and laughter. The interaction for all parties is invaluable and the children’s visit is always eagerly anticipated by the residents.

We also take full advantage of our lovely setting, taking the children on regular walks in the town and to the numerous parks Stony Stratford has to offer. Local residents often see our large “Buggy Bus” around the town as we take regular trips to the local library. Enjoying the library from an early age is a great way for children to embrace the fun of reading.

We work closely with the community and often become involved with Town events and use the local amenities and surrounding area.

Senior Nursery Manager - Kate Ayres

My name is Kate Ayres - Manager at Stony Stratford, I have worked for Acorn for 7 years and have been working in Early Years for just over 11 years and hold a level 3 qualification. Since working for Acorn I have worked across 3 Acorn settings and progressed from a senior to a manager, last year I gained my Forest School qualification.

I am passionate about providing the children with open ended experiences, focusing on the interests of each individual child and facilitating a rich environment that captures awe and wonder, to extend the children’s leaning using natural resources and providing first-hand experience to maintain high wellbeing and involvement throughout the nursery. I support all staff to provide the children with high quality child care to help build a stable foundation in preparation for the upcoming chapters in their lives.
